The History

By JP Davis

I grew up in the rural town of Albany GA, which is known for its tough residents and passion for sports. In my family athletics was a part of our DNA and sports came as naturally as breathing.

My abilities as an accomplished youth athlete and academic success quickly opened doors for me. I soon began to receive opportunities which were out of reach of so many of my friends and relatives. When I left home for prep school and college, I felt as though someone had opened a curtain uncovering an array of privileges and advantages which were unavailable to so many people in my hometown. I saw first- hand what young people could achieve if given realistic opportunities to be successful. These opportunities however seemed to belong exclusively to those who excelled in athletics, or who came from affluence – and not to the majority of the youth in my small economically challenged community.

There were few doors opened to youth from my community, if they were  not gifted athletes, and even these opportunities were limited. For a young person to have a chance at success they would have to fight inconceivable odds. I quickly realized athletics could open doors to educational opportunities which had the potential to change the lives of young people – and their entire families.

I was blessed to be influenced by my Grandmother and my parents who consistently worked to improve the community we lived in. It was instilled in me early in my life that we had a duty to serve the community which supported us as we grew. I saw my Mom, Dad and Grandmother take in, raise and support children from our community who needed help – regardless of who the child was. I was also taught to be grateful for my privileges and to share my blessings with others.

My desire to work with young people and to support my community, shaped my decision on what to study in college. It also inspired me to spend my time volunteering in various youth outreach programs around campus. It was a key contributor in choosing to further my education 3 years ago. I obtained my Masters degree from Grand Canyon University in Education and Adolescent Development.

These experiences led to me establish Grind Incorporated LLC. I started Grind Inc because I have always felt that I can, and must, do more. Grind Inc is a limited holding company invested in improving society through empowering the youth in communities around the world. Grind Inc primary focus is to support youth in impoverished communities to level the playing field.

My Grandmother and the way that she tirelessly worked throughout her life to strengthen our community was my inspiration. Although she is no longer here, I uphold her legacy through the purpose we continue to strive for. My passion for providing opportunities and building resilience in young people has been embedded in the mission statement of my company. As a professional athlete I have endeavored to be active in giving back to not only my hometown, but also supporting young people in the communities I have played in – both in the USA and overseas. Through Grind Inc charitable efforts and enrichment programs, I have tried to be a positive role model and make a difference in improving the lives of young people around the world.

Our mentoring programs were born of the belief that every child regardless of income or social status should have a consistent support network. Growing up I saw kids who were extremely talented struggle due to that lack of support. These experiences led me to believe that anyone can accomplish anything if they have the right people believing in them, and helping guide them along the way. During the isolation and school closures in 2020, the need for our mentoring programs became even more clear. Although in its infancy Grind Inc has operated programs in the USA, El Salvador, the UAE and across Australia. Our programs are centered around providing tutoring and mentor services, teaching life skills, and providing various sports skills camps. These programs are aimed at empowering the youth to become the best versions of themselves.
